Our Story

Some of the best ideas begin as memories.

As a young boy spending summers on Cape Cod during the 1960s, founder Richard Cardoza eagerly awaited letters and postcards from his grandparents. Each card carried more than a picture of a beautiful destination—it carried a connection. Scenic coastlines, handwritten notes, colorful stamps, and simple messages became treasured keepsakes that made distant places feel closer and loved ones feel near.

Those postcards remained tucked away long after childhood, but the emotions they carried never faded.

Years later, Richard built a career around another passion: wine. Beginning in the late 1980s, he spent more than three decades in the wine industry as a retailer, wine merchant, importer, and negotiant. As owner of Cardoza's Wine & Spirits in Massachusetts, he helped introduce thousands of customers to great wines from around the world while building a business deeply connected to the community.

Over the years, his stores became a platform for giving back. Through wine festivals, charitable tastings, fundraising dinners, and community events, hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised for organizations supporting historic preservation, children's health, the arts, food security, and countless local causes. The work was rewarding because it combined three things he loved: wine, people, and making a difference.

Eventually, a new chapter called. Richard sold his stores and relocated to Napa Valley, where he continued his lifelong journey in wine. While the move brought new opportunities, it also meant leaving behind the fundraising platform he had spent decades building. For years, he searched for a way to reconnect his passion for wine with his desire to support meaningful causes.

The answer arrived unexpectedly on the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Like so many who visit Tahoe, Richard was captivated by its crystal-clear waters, towering pines, granite boulders, mountain air, and unforgettable sunsets. The lake stirred something familiar—the same feelings of wonder, nostalgia, and connection he had experienced as a child collecting postcards.

Then one evening, while talking wine with Kate, the woman behind the bar at Uncorked in Truckee, the conversation drifted toward travel, memories, and the emotional bond people have with places they love.

At one point she said something simple:

"What if you could bottle those memories?"

In that instant, everything clicked.

Not just wine.

Not just labels.

But a collection of memories people could bring home, share with loved ones, and revisit years later.

That night, Postcards From Tahoe was born.

Inspired by Lake Tahoe's iconic landscapes and designed like vintage postcards from another era, each bottle celebrates a place, a memory, and a story. Whether it's a summer afternoon on the lake, a winter weekend in the mountains, a family vacation, a honeymoon, or a favorite sunset, every wine is intended to capture the feeling of Tahoe and preserve it long after the trip has ended.

Today, Postcards From Tahoe is about more than fine wine. It is about honoring the places that shape us, the memories that stay with us, and the people we share them with. It is also about giving back. Through partnerships with conservation and community organizations, we are committed to helping preserve the beauty, spirit, and natural wonder of Lake Tahoe for future generations.

Because some places are too beautiful to forget.

And some memories deserve to be uncorked.
